Sunshine is indeed very different to mere vitamin D3 in several ways.
1.5 hours a day daylight direct through the eyeball without glasses is required by the body to make sufficient serotonin neurotransmitter, though other parts of the body also make some of the serotonin that is required.

Sunlight differs in that any hormone D3 produced by it does not need to be supplemented with vitamin K2 to prevent calcium deposition where it is not needed, for instance, excess vitamin D3 supplementation causes calcium phosphate crystal formation in the lungs and itself causes coughing. However, vitamin K2 is still necessary of course as [part of our noprmal diet, it is just that if you do not have vitamin K2 when you sunbathe you won't form calcium phosphate crystals in your lungs for instance.
Also, an article in Harpers and Queen Magazine health section back in the late 1980's by Diane and Leslie Kenton stated that sunshine speeds up the removal of all kinds of heavy metals, pollutants and toxins from the body enormously, by a massive 20-40 times faster or so.
